Why I Write This Blog

I wanted to share with you why I am writing this Safe For Now Blog and the commitment I share in helping others (and myself) to stay safe during times of crisis.

I am a responder for the National Suicide Prevention Hotline in my home state. How I became a responder was totally by chance, my long time family practitioner mentioned to me at one of my yearly check ups that she thought I would be a good fit as a responder at the hotline, It had never occurred to me prior to this visit. My doctor did not reveal how she was aware of the hotline, yet she had all the helpful information, like how to apply, and what it would entail. I felt instantly that I wanted to find out more and apply. I applied and was accepted and went through all the certifications.

Fast-forward to now, I love what I do, I love connecting, listening and helping others, I am also a writer and often find my mind filled with thoughts I would like to share. At first I wanted to write all the stories I was given access too, I wanted to help people by sharing my first hand experience, yet because of my obligation to privacy and the need to keep the people we help confidential, I am unable to give the exact details of the connections I make. I felt the best way to share would be to write with the intention of helping people stay safe, to write various concepts I have gained through my personal experience, as well as tie my own thoughts to the work I do into my writing. The blog also has resources available for those who need help now.
